Do you remember the first time you got a bicycle? After riding it for like, 2 hours, did you come back to your home and say, “I am done for the day, I’ll ride my beautiful bicycle tomorrow”. I bet that did not happen. Everything that amazes us, has the power to consume us. In this post, I gonna talk about causes of internet addiction and what can be done to get rid of it. No one wants to waste their whole day on YouTube, but they eventually end up doing the exact same thing, followed by regret at night.

What are the major causes of Internet addiction?

  • Depression

The best way to deal with depression is what youngsters believe, the internet. Firstly, they will search things related to depression, how to deal with it, then put on some sad music, make themselves a good meal and maybe then start watching YouTube. One thing will lead to another, and the data will keep on running like a tap. Why? Because a depressed person never wants to face the reality, he wants to stay in the world of internet to keep his mind occupied.

  • Isolation

If a person does not socialize well with others and likes to stay alone, then she is making more and more time to spend online. When people isolate themselves, they hardly think of doing something productive, such as reading, studying, etc.

  • Procrastination

If you have a tonne of the syllabus to complete in a short period of time, instead of getting started on it, you are more likely to procrastinate that work by spending time online. Why? Because the thought of doing a lot of work makes you not want to start at all. By the way, India is among the countries that are known for highest media consumption on YouTube, thanks to Jio.

Symptoms of Internet Addiction:

  • Aggression
  • Dishonesty
  • Isolation
  • Weak eyesight

  • Pending work
  • Inability to socialize

How to beat these causes of Internet Addiction?

If you’re an adult, then you can make important decisions for life on your own. To you, I advise, gather your lost willpower, take some responsibilities and think of repercussions. Soon you will have to get a job or start something of your own. That will require you to work hard for it. You need to get your life back in order. Make a daily schedule that includes your tasks and focuses on accomplishing those tasks. At the end of the day when you have done all those tasks, then it’s time for you to relax and watch some Netflix and chill, but not before that. Try to get out of your home, and make new friends, play outdoor games, join a public speaking club. Fill your day with productive activities so that you don’t miss being around the Internet.

If you are a parent of a teenager who is addicted to the internet, then you need to do the above-mentioned things for your child. Let them know the importance of outdoors sports, socialization, extra-curricular activities, hobbies, studies, and most importantly, responsibility. Indian parents do not do a good job in teaching responsibility to a young child. You should make them clean their room, let them help you in cleaning the house, giving clothes in the laundry, grocery shopping, etc. Tell them they are an equal member of the house and they have to contribute like one.

The causes of Internet addiction only affect you negatively only when your day is not filled with productive activities.
